Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Trenco Technologies Limited, the owner and operator of the Zuwa ride-hailing and courier platform, collects, uses, protects and shares your personal data. It applies to riders, drivers and courier customers using Zuwa in Zambia.
By using Zuwa, you agree to the practices described in this policy. We are committed to handling your data in accordance with the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021 of the Republic of Zambia.
01Data We Collect
Zuwa collects only the information needed to provide the service: name, phone number, email address, profile photo, payment and mobile money details, trip and delivery history including pickup and drop-off points, device model, operating system and app version. For drivers, we also collect licence details, vehicle details, police clearance and other compliance documents required by law.
02Location Data
Precise GPS location is collected from riders during an active trip request and ride, and from drivers while they are online on the platform. Location is not tracked when the app is closed or when a driver is offline, except where retention of trip records is required for safety or fraud investigation.
03How We Use Your Data
Personal data is used solely to operate the platform: matching riders with drivers, processing payments, calculating fares, providing customer support, ensuring user safety, improving service reliability, and meeting our legal obligations. We do not use your data for unrelated purposes without fresh consent.
04No Sale of Personal Data
Trenco Technologies Limited does not sell, rent or trade your personal data to third parties. Data is shared with providers needed to operate Zuwa, including payment processors, cloud hosting providers, SMS gateways and Meta for WhatsApp messaging, to the extent needed for those services.
05Rider-Driver Data Sharing
During a trip, riders and drivers see only what is necessary to complete the trip: first name, photo, vehicle details, rating and live location. Phone numbers are masked or limited to the duration of the trip where technically supported. Personal information disclosed between rider and driver during a trip is only for completing the trip and is protected under this policy.
5.1Prohibited Use & Legal Consequences
No user may use, store, share or act upon another user's personal data outside Zuwa. This includes contacting another user after a trip for unrelated purposes, saving or sharing phone numbers, photographing or recording another user's details, harassment, stalking, or using trip information to locate a person. Misuse can result in immediate and permanent removal, law enforcement reports, and legal action under the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021 and the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act.
06Data Security
Your personal data is protected with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls and audit logging on cloud infrastructure. Access by Trenco staff is restricted to those who need it to perform their role, and all access is logged.
07Data Retention
Personal data is kept only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by Zambian law, including tax, transport and anti-fraud regulations. Trip, payment and driver compliance records are retained for mandated periods, then securely deleted or anonymised.
08Your Rights
Under Zambia's Data Protection Act, you may request access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate or incomplete data, deletion subject to legal retention duties, and withdrawal of consent for optional processing such as marketing messages. Requests can be made through in-app support or the contact details below and will be handled within legal timelines.
09Legal Compliance & Disclosure
Zuwa complies with the Data Protection Act No. 3 of 2021 of the Republic of Zambia. We disclose personal data to law enforcement or regulators only where lawfully required, for example in response to a valid court order or in genuine safety emergencies.
10Changes to This Policy & Contact
We will notify you in the app of material changes before they take effect. Continued use of Zuwa after notice means you accept the updated policy. Questions, complaints or rights requests can be directed through in-app support or info@zuwazuwa.com. If unresolved, you may escalate to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Zambia.
WhatsApp Ride Notifications
Zuwa uses the Meta WhatsApp Business Platform through our Zuwa Notifications Prod integration to send ride notifications. If someone books a ride on your behalf, they provide your phone number so we can send you the assigned driver's name, phone number and a link to track that ride. This policy also applies to people receiving these notifications who do not have a Zuwa account.
To deliver these messages, we share the recipient's phone number and notification content with Meta. We receive and store WhatsApp message identifiers, delivery and read status when available, and messages you send to our business number, including your WhatsApp identifier, message content and timestamps. We use this information to deliver and troubleshoot notifications and record messaging preferences. It is subject to the security and retention practices described above. Meta also processes WhatsApp information under its own Privacy Policy.
Reply STOP or UNSUBSCRIBE to our WhatsApp business number to opt out of future WhatsApp ride notifications. This does not cancel your ride or stop necessary updates through other channels. To request deletion of your messaging data, including if you do not have a Zuwa account, email info@zuwazuwa.com with your phone number and request. Deletion is subject to the retention obligations above.
Account Deletion Requests
To request account closure and deletion of associated personal data, visit our Account Deletion Request page. You can submit a request without the app. Deletion is subject to the retention obligations above.
